A Special Day

Kona turns three today! We celebrated with a trip to her favorite trail. I told her to follow every sniff, chase every lizard, today was her day. (With mad dashes into skin-slashing chaparral, leaps up vertical walls over 8 feet tall and bunny terrorization being exempt from the birthday offering).
It's hard to believe I brought Kona home three years ago. This past year has been transformative for me. I let go the dream of having that dog that goes everywhere with me and instead hold onto the cool canine I do have.
My job as Kona-Mama is to minimize fear, maximize fun and find safe challenges that help expand my dog's world. While that may not include evening strolls in the neighborhood or trips to the park, we're OK with that.
Here's to another year of finding more fun! Happy birthday Kona Girl!

Happy Birthday Kona! I think you're one of the coolest dogs I know. Here's to another year of adventures off the beaten path.

Exploring the trail is way more fun than sniffin' sidewalks.

Happy Birthday Kona! You have an awesome human who accepts you for the wonderful dog you are, even though things aren't exactly like she visualized before she met you.

Um, a down vest at 60 degrees! I'd be in shorts if it were 60 degrees here!

I hope that AC's knee is doing well. I've been thinking of you two.

WOW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KONA, think of all that she has taught in the last three years about love and life and to think she is only three years old. Just hearing about her and her journey has brightened my life! Glad it sounds like a good day and hope there are many, many, many more lessons and wonderful years to come with the beautiful Kona!!!!

Happy Birthday Miss Kona! Riley and I think you are the coolest pup ever (we're just a tad bit partial!) We've loved reading about your adventures with your mom and all the fun you have chasing lizards and watching those beautiful sunrises. Hope your birthday was fantastic and that your mom spoiled you with extra special goodies :) Too bad we don't live close so us red and white girlies could romp on those trails together, how cool would that be?!
